"May is for ALL Women" - Post 1
by Amanda @ Modern Hippie Momma
What woman truly knows her worth?
More importantly, how does she define worth?
It is so true that a woman is more likely to be critical of herself rather than be approving of herself.
To me, the truly most beautiful women are those who live fully comfortable with who they are.....
They laugh loudly, cry easily, give hugs without reservation, and are confident within their flaws.
About a month before I went into labor, a beautiful soul I was currently working with was moving to another state. She had only first crossed my path about a year ago but in that time, we had grown close in heart and soul, which I have found organically happens between kindred spirits.
We threw her a party (to her surprise) and purposely made sure she felt all gushy and happy and sad, all at once by presenting her with some CASH money for her travels and a vase of flowers we used as a sort of speaking wand, passing it around the room as each of us took our turn expressing our loving, departing words of encouragement and reflection on the past year of building a relationship with her.
There were probably only a few unforgettable moments she and I had together that without a doubt had an impact on both of our beings, how we saw ourselves and have shaped how we are living our lives today.
Moments like these are usually fleeting, coming unexpectedly yet usually in perfect timing.
It's as if the Universe is one big jigsaw puzzle, and we're strategically being moved around... and everyday is literally a new experience that we were absolutely MEANT to have in order to have the wisdom to move on to the next day, experience, and moment.
These moments come and go quickly but you'd have to be dead (or simply out of touch...which is common!) not to notice them, and grasp on to them, taking a mental and heartfelt photo or video that you just KNOW, even in that moment, that you will revisit it over and over...
...because the Universe has given this moment to you as a gift...
And it is up to YOU to notice it, feel it, live it, and own it, right while it is happening....
Allowing yourself to FEEL how your own depth as a spiritual being has just expanded.
A few weeks before her surprise party, I posted on Facebook a frantic, barely coherent paragraph that I typed through the heavy tears in my eyes as I sat in the middle my favorite Pho restaurant having lunch by myself as I sometimes did while pregnant (and craving Pho) after having just learned that my midwives... the women I had grown so closely with ALL these months... were going out of business and were not going to be able to deliver my baby.
This is a HUGE deal, and if you've had children, I really shouldn't have to say anymore on that part. I know you know how huge of a deal that was at that point in my pregnancy. (for the record and on a happy note, they stayed in business) :)
As I returned from lunch still teary eyed, this woman marched up front to my desk, tears in her eyes & smiling, grabbed my hand and walked me back to her office, not saying a word.
She gently closed her door, grabbed me and we just cried for a moment.
She then looked at me and said that everything is going to be alright, as I bawled after suddenly realizing that she had seen my post I made and this beautiful soul not only wanted to console me... but she outwardly FELT for me.
THINK OF THAT QUOTE AT THE TOP RIGHT NOW.
THAT is the woman that quote is talking about.
Turns out, she had just found out something right around that same time I posted to Facebook that really effected her life at that point.
She was scared and unsure of a decision she had already made and was, up until that point, sure it was the right one, but she failed to mention her inner turmoil until she spent an adequate amount of time caring for my feelings and current need for support.
Adjusting myself and feeling my "Appreciation for Humanity" tank (I just made that up, but it sounds good!) fill up once again thanks to her, I sat her down, looked her in the eye and told her to hold her head up, look forward and go with no expectations except to take the first step and trust that the rest will follow.
We were in the perfect place at the most perfect time and in perfect harmony with one another more than once.
It is women like this who have impacted me in more ways than I could put into words throughout my adulthood.
They fit in perfectly within my motto that was no doubt indirectly inspired by these beautiful souls...
"Live Life Openly"
They are fully...
Open, Aware, Awake, Intuitive, Empathetic, Strong, Receptive
And most of the time, other women are naturally intimidated by them due to all of these things. :)
The true beauty, the true worth of a woman, is the simple fact that she IS the Universe.
She alone can see your needs, hold your heart and lift your spirit when you need it most, seemingly saving your life in a sense.
The woman who I am reminded of today once said to me (referring to me being shy about sharing my blog with the world),
"Anything you do you should be proud of!
You know that!!"
And let me just tell you, those words from her have come to mind several time since then.
She is the reason my Delightfully Hippie Etsy shop is now open, the reason I painted my bathroom with confidence (don't ask), as well as the reason I openly share my blog and everything else I am trying for the first time with the world.
It is moments like we had, and the certain things she said at just the right time that has helped me confidently step into the next new thing over and over again recently, and I'd like to think she has experienced the same because of me.
